DEFINITION:
Asbestos is a naturally
occurring mineral fiber that resists heat and corrosion,
is known for its superior tensile strength and has
tremendous isolative capacity. Asbestos was known by
the ancient Greeks and Romans, but was not utilized
extensively until the discovery of asbestos mine in
the 1800's.
NEED FOR CONCERN:
Asbestos became widely
used in building construction materials such as sprayapplied
fireproofing, decorative surfacing finishes, boiler
and pipe insulation and resilient floor covering. However,
with the advent of asbestos-related illnesses much
as asbestosis and lung cancer, the EP A limited the
use of asbestos and developed the National Emission
Standards for Air Pollutants (NESHAP) and the Asbestos
Hazardous Emergency Response Act (AHERA) to eliminate
potential health hazards.
While today's newly constructed
buildings are asbestos-free, there are many buildings
that still have asbestos-containing
materials and could potentially pose a hazard. As a
building owner, occupant or building professional,
it is important to be aware of any asbestos-containing
materials and to know how to deal with them. It is
equally important to have a qualified professional
determine if the asbestoscontaining materials
need to be abated or if they can be managed in place.
SOURCE
OF PRACTICAL ADVICE:
Complete Environmental
Services (CES) is an environmental engineering consulting
firm that has been involved in the asbestos industry
for several years. CES, like the EP A believes that
the best approach to managing asbestoscontaining
materials is to manage them in-place. If abatement
is necessary, we will provide you with a cost-effective
solution. Over the years, CES has earned a reputation
for developing solutions, and the ability to respond
to our clients in a timely manner. CES finds its success
by following one simple rule: approach each problem
with engineering principles and deliver them with integrity
and vision.
CES has earned its success
through our ability to maintain long-term relationships
with our clients.
Many of our
clients, architects, engineers, attorneys, building
owners, and managers, have enjoyed our consistent
successful client relations. AVAILABLE SERVICES:
CES offers the full spectrum
of asbestos consulting services. They include:
- Comprehensive
Asbestos Surveys
- Asbestos Design Services
- Project Management
- Operations & Maintenance
Programs
In order to best understand
asbestos in your building, it is critical that you
have a Comprehensive
Asbestos
Survey. CES has developed a standard survey procedure
and report format to provide our clients with the
most detailed and concise assessment of their building.
All building materials
and mechanical systems are assessed, documented, and
photographed for accurate
reporting,
Each CES report includes sound recommendations
and accurate cost estimates. Our survey procedure has
been utilized in thousands of building including
multi-story
building, industrial facilities and multi-building
facilities.
CES provides asbestos
design services for abatement of any hazardous building
condition.
CES produces
detailed specifications and drawings for the
abatement process,
and depending on our client's needs, can readily
produce specifications in US Corps of Engineers,
GSA, NA VF
AC, CSI, and SPECSINTACF formats. CES has produced
specifications for small buildings, multiple
building facilities and high-rise buildings. We have
been
extremely successful when designing abatement
programs in occupied
facilities.
Project management of
abatement projects has been a forte of CES for many
years. Our experienced
industrial
hygienist serve as the client's, on-site representative
to assure that the abatement process is going as
schedule
and safety guidelines are being followed. CES provides
our clients with a complete final report that includes
a concise summary of all project activities and
air monitoring results.
Reliability
of Complete Environmental Services:
The
Healthy Environment Program is a certification
program offered by CES that guarantees that your
building is managed safely in compliance with the
asbestos industry standards and all other government
regulations. After completing our maintenance program
and train the building staff to properly maintain
any asbestoscontaining materials found in
the building. The building is then certified as
asbestos hazard-free.
The certification can
be helpful when refinancing or transferring property.
Most
importantly, it serves as a tenant relation's
tool. The Healthy Environment Program informs tenants,
lender, or buyers that if the building has asbestos,
the staff has been trained to properly maintain it
and scheduled
re-inspections are implemented. |
